Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy stated that ultimate victory belongs to farmers when they fight for their rights together. He said the Centre’s anti-farmer policies are causing severe losses to farmers across the nation.
Speaking at the Maha Dharna demonstration organised by TRS at Indira Park on Thursday, the Minister said while the rural economy received a huge boost due to the farmer-friendly initiatives of the State government, the Centre was adopting for anti-farmer policies.
He alleged that the Union government was controlling all systems and was the lone custodian of powers to purchase, stock, distribute and export rice in the country as per the Food Security Act. “But the Central government is running away from its responsibility. It is also refusing to transfer its powers to the States,” he said.
Niranjan Reddy also ridiculed the statements made by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and BJP State president Bandi Sanjay without any basic knowledge about farming. “Neither of them have any cattle or farm tillers, to learn about farming. The BJP leaders are visiting the paddy procurement centres only to provoke farmers and then gain publicity for political mileage,” he said. The Minister demanded that the Union government must review its decision and procure paddy from Telangana, failing which it would be the ultimate loser.
Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy said some people are looking at the ongoing paddy procurement issue as a fight between two political parties or a fight between the Central and the State governments. “But the facts are different and farmers of Telangana are being made to suffer by the BJP leadership in the Central government as they are fearing that if the Telangana government continues to succeed in agricultural development, there would be demands from other States especially the BJP-ruled States to implement schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, uninterrupted power supply and others,” he said. He urged farmers not to fall prey to the assurances of the BJP leaders, failing which they would suffer severe losses.
TRS Parliamentary Party leader K Keshav Rao, Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Government Whip Gongidi Sunitha, MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, and others spoke on the occasion.
