Hyderabad: Centre for Dalit Studies (CDS) on Tuesday thanked the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for according priority for Dalit Bandhu scheme in the budget presented in the State Assembly on Monday.

In a press release here, CDS chairperson Mallepalli Laxmaiah described the scheme as unique in the world and added that the scheme would instill confidence of dalits. He thanked the Finance Minister T Harish Rao for explaining in detail about the scheme during his budget speech in the Assembly. The way the scheme was implemented showed that the State government was taking it up scientifically without any limitations, he said.

Every dalit family of the State will get a financial assistance of Rs. 10 lakhs as part of Dalit Bandhu. In the entire country, assistance on such a scale to a beneficiary has never been provided. It is a historic scheme providing the highest amount of assistance directly to the beneficiary. The scheme was aimed at eradication of not only poverty but also to put an end to social discrimination. Once economic development was achieved, social discrimination will also subside. Human relationships will become more equal and flourish.

Previous governments linked schemes with bank loans and collateral security. That is the reason why they never achieved desired results. But there is no bank linkage for Dalit Bandhu.
