Hyderabad: Telangana has become a trendsetter for the entire country with many of its developmental concepts being replicated by other States and the union government as well, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said on Monday.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Phase-II Project that aims to provide and boost water supply to the extended areas of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and villages. Speaking on the occasion, Rao pointed out that the union government has taken up the Har Ghar Jal scheme inspired by the State government’s Mission Bhagiratha.
“There was once a saying that what Bengal does today, India will do it tomorrow. But today’s trend is that a scheme implemented today in Telangana is adopted tomorrow in India. After we started Rythu Bandhu, 11 States in the country were inspired and implemented it. In addition, PM Kisan was launched in the country by the Prime Minister,” he added.
The Minister also said that the world’s biggest lift irrigation project, Kaleshwaram, in addition to addressing irrigation needs in the State, would also boost drinking water supply to Hyderabad and plans are underway to execute the task. “The State government is planning to address all the needs of people till 2051 which includes drinking water supply. Infrastructure for drinking water supply has been built with Rs 6,000 crore and Hyderabad should not face drinking water issues as being faced by Chennai,” he said.
No other State in the country has a round-the-clock power supply and empty pot protests for water have become a thing of the past, Rao said. In her address, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy said people should introspect the development of Hyderabad before and after the State’s formation. She lauded the vision and efforts of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao for developing the State and the city.
