People pull down a tent set up for gram sabha at Siddique Nagar village in Khammam district on Wednesday.
Khammam: People continued to stage protests on the second day of gram sabhas being held to select beneficiaries for four welfare schemes to be implemented by the State government, on Tuesday.
The residents of Siddique Nagar village of Konijarla mandal staged a protest at gram sabha alleging that the schemes offered by the State government were not given to the deserving people. They threw away chairs and pulled down the tent put up to hold the gram sabha.
The villagers raised concerns that more than half of the beneficiaries announced by the authorities were ineligible while those who were eligible were set aside. They demanded the officials to identify and select the genuine beneficiaries for the schemes.
The villagers accused the officials that they selected ineligible persons due to political pressure for the welfare schemes like Rythu Bharosa, Indiramma housing and ration cards. They wanted the government to conduct a comprehensive survey once again to identify the deserving people.
At Lachagudem village of Chinthakani mandal the crowds gathered in gram sabhas questioned the officials over faulty selection of beneficiaries for ration cards and Indiramma houses. The local Congress leaders present at the meeting also faced the ire of the public.
