Medak: The Medak police have cracked the mystery behind two murders reported in Chinna Shankarampet within a gap of 10 days and arrested one person, said to be a seasoned criminal.

The accused, Vottem Mallesham alias Golla Mallesham (32), was a resident of Rudraram in Chinna Shankarampet mandal. The two persons killed were Naveen (24), a resident of Posanipet in Ramareddy mandal of Kamreddy district and Komre Swamy (39), a resident of Kurnapally in Yedavally mandal in Nizamabad. Their charred bodies were found in nearby spots within a gap of nine days from October 24 to November 3.

According to the police, Mallesham had no enmity with the two victims on different occasions and had befriended them at different spots. He convinced them to travel to Chinna Shankarampet with him. After boozing with them, he smashed their heads with boulders before setting the bodies on fire. While Naveen’s charred body was found on October 24, that of Swamy was found on November 3.

The accused, who had a past criminal record, was sent to jail multiple times in the last 11 years. Mallesham, accused in a murder case in 2013, had served time in jail from 2013 to 2017. After walking free, he had picked up an argument with a junior assistant working in the central jail and set various things in his house on fire under the Keesara police station limits in 2019. He was again sent to jail.

After being released in 2022, Mallesham used to steal valuables from passengers on trains. He used to send them to his brother Vottem Ramesh (40). In the same way, he killed Naveen on October 24 and Swamy on November 2.

SP D Uday Kumar Reddy, DSP S Venkat Reddy and others produced the accused before media in Medak. The SP appreciated the Chinna Shankarampet police and others for cracking the case.

The police, who recovered one gold ring, one gold chain, five mobile phones, a laptop and a hammer, from Mallesham, also arrested his brother Ramesh.
