Unlike the portrayal of chocolate boy or boy-next-door characters that he has done all through his career, Nithiin has been wanting to do a refreshing role. And it came in the form of Chandra Sekhar Yeleti’s directorial Check. The movie is releasing on February 26.
“Yes, compared to all the movies I have done so far, this is going to be a very fresh point, a unique subject with a new treatment and projected me as an actor. I have done family-oriented, love stories, action movies. But this is quite a different story in terms of characterisation and treatment. It is certainly one of those movies that demanded more from me as an actor,” shares Nithiin.
The actor admits that it was quite exhaustive at times. “In the very first scene, I play an inmate who is about to face the gallows. The jail set, the overall look give a distinctive and rugged look. It’s really very realistic. I was depressed when I was playing the character and, at times, I couldn’t come out of it. More than physically, I was drained emotionally. The approach towards the making of Check was realistic as we have realised that the movie demands a more realistic approach,” he adds.
Stating that Check would surely give the audience a different experience in theatres, Nithiin says the movie would put audiences in the world of Aditya. “Since Check has only one single, one could understand how important the background score is. The movie would surely launch Priya Prakash Varrier as a star in Telugu cinema. I’ve to thank Rakul Preet Singh for signing the movie. She plays a key role as a lawyer. Senior artiste Sai Chand, too, has impressed with his versatile acting as a coach in the movie. I thank the makers, including the entire crew and cast, for bringing a fabulous on-screen drama,” says the actor.

Sekhar Yeleti
While it seems like the story is based on karma, the movie has a philosophical take on the subject. “The movie harps on a theme — you are the creator of your destiny. The lead character Aditya, played by Nithiin, is an intelligent person and has a great self-belief. Because of a slight error, he puts himself in a peculiar situation. His life is in a shambles. To take full control of his life, how Aditya comes out of this situation is the crux,” explains director Chandra Sekhar Yeleti.
Senior artiste Sai Chand, who was last seen in movies like Fidaa, Syra, and Uppena, is quite excited to be part of Check. “Chandra Sekhar Yeleti directorial Anukokunda Oka Roju is one film that surprises me even today. Such is his screenwriting and passion to tell stories on-screen. In my last outing Uppena, I played the father of Vaishnav Tej. In Check, I played the chess coach. When I first enquired about my character, the director said he had Naseeruddin Shah in his mind. As things didn’t work out, we opted to rope you in. Check has a new and refreshing story to narrate. I hope audiences would like it,” he adds.
