Hyderabad: Alpla Group in India Partner and Managing Director Vagish Dixit is the newly elected Chairman of CII Telangana State Council. Efforts will be made to popularise as well as mainstream industry internships. Focus will be on skill development initiatives for youth, he tells Telangana Today.

What will keep you busy?

We are focused on skill development initiatives for our youth including internship opportunities with our member companies. Telangana is a thought leader in supporting startups. We will continue to work in a focused manner to support our startups with proper mentoring models. We will work with Indian Women’s Network (IWN) in the area of mentoring women leaders. Also, we will work closely with YI (Young Indians) in this journey. We are keen to expand CII Telangana activities in Warangal and Nizamabad areas.

Dual apprenticeship programme planned and its scope?

The Dual Apprenticeship programme piloted by Alpla in partnership with Government of Telangana and CII Telangana has been a big success. We plan to replicate this model with other companies. We will encourage member engagement with our educational institutions including polytechnics to bring practical knowledge and education to the students and upgrade the skills and exposure of the teachers and professors as well.

Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao asked industry bodies like CII to voice the State’s concerns with the Government of India. Your plans on this?

Government of Telangana has been a pro business destination with many firsts to its credit. It has a forward looking leadership. We have no doubt that Telangana will continue to attract industries from across the world in a bigger way in the future as well. CII will continue to work to enhance the value addition. We will share our thoughts and ideas with the Government of India through appropriate channels.

What more can be done to manufacturing?

Manufacturing is the core industrial activity and provides the much needed jobs in large numbers. To make manufacturing competitive, it is important to have efficient and cost effective energy, especially green energy. The State government is already proactive in setting up industrial parks for various sectors. This will continue to help us in our journey of becoming competitive. We hope that availability of solar power and ease of establishing the same would be improved in future to foster competitiveness.

CSR by member companies?

Members of CII have risen to the occasion during the Covid crisis even whilst they were battling economic and health concerns. This will continue at an even stronger pace in the future, even though the focus may now shift to environment, sustainability, and skilling.
