Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday promised to fulfil all pending demands for Osmania University‘s development, announcing that he would return to the campus in December, without elaborate security, to hold a public meeting with students and faculty.
The Chief Minister, who visited the OU campus on Monday to inaugurate new infrastructure, gave students and the university administration a free hand to present their issues and demands.
He stated that his next visit would be at the iconic Arts College rather than Tagore Auditorium, as a gesture of accessibility.
“I urge the Vice Chancellor and the local police not to deploy a single policeman when I visit the campus next time. Students are welcome to hold protests. At Arts College, I will hold a meeting and release all the funds required for the development of the OU campus,” he said.
He also stressed his government’s commitment to dialogue, adding, “On that day, I am instructing the DGP and Commissioner not to deploy a single policeman on campus. I will come and meet the poor students of Osmania University.”
The Chief Minister said that all ministers in his cabinet were accessible to the public and students. Referring to Professor M Kodandaram, he said, “We wanted Professor Kodandaram to be your representative. That’s the reason why we ensured he became an MLC. However, some people went to extreme lengths, including approaching the Supreme Court, just to ensure he is not an MLC. I am promising you that Kodandaram will be an MLC again in the coming days.”
On the state’s financial condition, the Chief Minister said he was not in a position to distribute wealth but could provide opportunities through education.
“The treasury is empty. I don’t have the means to make you rich by providing land. That’s why I am requesting all the Dalits, minorities, and youngsters of Telangana, if you want to become rich, please focus on education, because I can only provide you with quality education,” he said.
The Chief Minister also criticised those who opposed Addanki Dayakar, stating, “Some people obstructed Addanki Dayakar from getting any position for 10 to 12 years. But today, he has become an MLC.”
He then urged OU students to protest against individuals who are not their well-wishers, rather than those who are genuinely committed to development.
