CM Revanth vows to renominate Prof Kodandaram as MLC despite SC order
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy vowed to renominate Prof Kodandaram Reddy as MLC despite a Supreme Court order. At Osmania University, he promised development funds, highlighted empty state coffers, and announced a December meeting at Arts College without police presence
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday indirectly questioned the Supreme Court order nullifying the Congress government’s nomination of Prof Kodandaram Reddy as an MLC, and asserted that he would renominate him. “Do what you can,” he told those who had moved the apex court.
Alleging that the earlier nomination of Kodandaram Reddy was cancelled “through conspiracies and cases in the Supreme Court”, he said the renomination would be done shortly.
“What is wrong in nominating Kodandaram as MLC? He remained calm when his house was attacked in the past. I would have slapped the agitators,” Revanth Reddy said after inaugurating new hostel buildings on the Osmania University premises on Monday.
Referring to MLC Addanki Dayakar, the Chief Minister said that in the past, efforts were made to deny him any position, but today he had become an MLC despite those attempts.
Appealing to students not to fall prey to false campaigns, he alleged that in the Hyderabad Central University land issue, artificial intelligence was used to create images of wild animals to mislead people. This, he said, was also a way of questioning the findings of the Central Empowered Committee appointed by the Supreme Court to probe the Kancha Gachibowli land deforestation.
“How long can they obstruct development? They are termites for Telangana, and if they come back to power, OU lands will be sold by developing layouts,” Revanth Reddy said.
At the same time, the Chief Minister admitted that there was no land for distribution and that the State coffers were empty. Even if the agricultural ceiling act was invoked, not a yard of land could be acquired, he claimed.
He appealed to students who had not turned up for the programme, saying, “Students should protest against those who take decisions against them. Efforts are being made to identify your issues and address them, but by opposing such initiatives, are you not obstructing development?”
Asserting that the State government had spent Rs 40,000 crore in the education sector this year, the Chief Minister said Rs 500 crore was sanctioned for the Women’s University at Koti.
Directing authorities to form a committee of education experts, engineers and university members for developing Osmania University on par with Stanford and Oxford, he asked the university to come up with plans and assured that all requirements would be fulfilled.
“A meeting will be organised at Arts College in December. Let students stage protests, and I am directing the police not to deploy any security,” Revanth Reddy said.
He also reiterated that the State government was committed to filling vacancies in government departments.
The Chief Minister alleged that a few vested interests were obstructing and filing cases against the declaration of Group examination results.
“Students are protesting and asking the government not to issue job notifications regularly so as to help them prepare for examinations,” Revanth Reddy said.
