Hyderabad: Starting this academic year, the postgraduate courses will have a common academic calendar which will be decided on Monday.
The Vice Chancellors of six conventional universities-Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University, Satavahana University and Telangana University are slated to chalk out a detailed academic plan on Monday, which will be common across all PG courses offered by these universities.
Presently, conventional universities offering PG courses have different academic calendars. In order to have the same almanac including admissions, classwork and examination, the universities were asked to draft a common calendar. So far, only the undergraduate courses across the conventional universities had a common academic calendar.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellors will also discuss the procedure that should be adopted for admissions into the PhD programmes.
As per the University Grants Commission rules, universities with NAAC A grade and above are allowed to hold a separate entrance test for admissions into PhD programmes, while other universities should admit candidates with the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Eligibility Test (SET) scores.
The officials of universities are also likely to come out with guidelines for implementing the cluster system that facilitates mobility of students and teachers from one college to another. For example, degree students of one institution can pursue a course which is being offered by another college within the system. Similarly, teachers can also be exchanged between two institutions.
The new system will also facilitate pooling or sharing of resources such as libraries, infrastructure, best practices and other human resources among the colleges. Nine autonomous degree colleges in the city have already been chosen for implementing the cluster system for the second-year degree students.
