Hyderabad: The United Muslim Forum (UMF) has expressed concern over the increasing communal activities by divisive elements in Telangana and demanded that the government take strict action against organisations affecting religious harmony in the State and those patronising them.

“Under the Congress government, mosques and dargahs are continuously being targeted. The government’s blindness and inaction against the culprits emboldens them,” said UMF president Maulana Mufti Syed Sadiq Mohiuddin Faheem.

He said that demolition activity in Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla district, in the name of transferring Dargah Sharif was highly reprehensible, and strict action against the culprits was essential, otherwise, it could set a very dangerous precedent.

Regarding the incident of violence at Banswada town of Kamareddy district, the forum said that Muslim traders were targeted in a planned manner and their shops and hotels were destroyed. “Communal elements continued to unleash violence in the presence of the police. Instead of taking action against the culprits involved in the violence, the police registered cases against the affected Muslims. The United Muslim Forum cannot remain silent on this matter. The government should restore the confidence of Muslims through concrete measures,” said Syed Muniruddin Ahmed Mukhtar, general secretary of the forum.
