Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday said the Congress and the BJP were colluding to decimate regional parties including their allies unless the latter were subservient. Both parties were keen to orchestrate the downfall of regional forces to monopolise political power in the country, he said in an interview with the ‘India Today’ television news channel.
“One Nation, One Election is a ploy to weaken regional parties. When they can’t manage simultaneous polls in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi, how will they handle elections across the country?” he asked, charging both the national parties of being arrogant and harbouring disregard for other political parties in the country. The collusion between both the parties was evident from the fact that the BJP government was not taking any action on corruption charges against the Congress governments in Karnataka and Telangana.
“Telangana being our backyard, we know what Revanth Reddy is upto. He is now a golden goose for Rahul Gandhi. Though there is a money flow from Telangana into Haryana and Maharashtra during elections, the Central agencies appear to be woefully silent and ignorant,” he said.
The BRS working president vowed that his party would resist crony capitalism and any attempts to centralise wealth for electoral manipulation. He termed the Congress government in Telangana a disaster.
“The economy is in decline, companies are leaving, and they failed to deliver on six guarantees and 420 promises. If farmers in Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency confirm 100 per cent crop loan waivers, I will resign immediately,” he declared.
On the Formula-E event, Rama Rao took full responsibility for organising the race’s first edition, which boosted Hyderabad’s economy by Rs.700 crore. However, he lambasted the Congress for cancelling the event in the second year, leading to international embarrassment.
“The Congress talks about corruption, but let them probe and prove it. If they want to arrest me, they are welcome,” he said.
The former Minister ridiculed Congress’s sudden push for a caste census, calling it a political stunt to gain electoral dividends in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
“After conducting six censuses, why now? Their questions go beyond social status, probing political affiliations, raising doubts about data misuse,” he said, demanding clarity from Rahul Gandhi on how Congress intends to overcome the Supreme Court’s 50 per cent reservation cap.
He clarified on BRS going slow in Maharashtra, stating that it did not mean giving up entirely. Stating that both Congress and BJP have failed Maharashtra, he urged people to support a strong regional voice like Shiv Sena or NCP.
