Congress halted key irrigation projects in Sangareddy, alleges Harish Rao
Former Minister T Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government halted the Sangameshwara and Basaveshwara lift irrigation projects and delayed repairs to the Singur project. He also urged BRS booth-level agents to ensure that voters were not deleted during the revision process.
Sangareddy: Former Minister T Harish Rao said that the Congress government had done a great injustice to the people of Sangareddy by halting the Sangameshwara Lift Irrigation Project (SLIP) and Basaveshwara Lift Irrigation Project (BLIP), besides delaying the repair works on the Singur multipurpose project.
Addressing the booth-level agents (BLAs) of the BRS during a workshop on the special intensive revision (SIR) of voters in Sangareddy on Friday, Rao said that the BRS government had launched the SLIP and BLIP with the aim of providing irrigation water to four lakh acres. However, he said that the Congress had made no efforts towards realising the dream projects as it had not allocated any funds to the two projects.
Stating that Singur was the lifeline of the erstwhile Medak and Nizamabad districts, the former Minister said that the snail’s pace of repair works on the project had denied irrigation water to 40,000 acres of ayacut for the ensuing vanakalam season. Rao said that Singur was also crucial in supplying water to Hyderabad and the districts of Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.
Exposing the government’s false propaganda on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), he said that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s proposed Musi rejuvenation project could not be realised unless water was pumped from Mallanna Sagar, which was actually part of Kaleshwaram. Terming Mallanna Sagar a gift to Hyderabad, Rao said that the project still had 25 TMCft of water.
The former Minister also sensitised the party’s BLAs to stay alert and ensure that BRS voters remained intact even after the revision. Terming the SIR process a routine exercise carried out by the Election Commission of India every 20 years, Rao said the BLAs must ensure that every voter filled out the form to avoid their names being removed from the electoral rolls. MLAs Chintha Prabhakar, V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, K Manik Rao, BRS leaders Chanti Kranthi Kiran, P Jaipal Reddy, Errolla Srinivas and others were present.
