Hyderabad: Taking a serious view of group politics within the Telangana unit, the Congress high command has directed the party MLAs, Ministers and leaders to mend their ways and adhere to party rules.
A series of meetings, including those of the TPCC Political Affairs Committee, Advisory Committee and others were convened at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday. AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, AICC Telangana incharge Meenakshi Natarajan, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and others participated in the meetings.
A host of issues, including preparations for the ensuing local body elections, the Jubilee Hills bye-election, complaints by MLAs and constituency leaders against Ministers and internal group politics were discussed at length.
Speaking to the leaders, the AICC chief is learnt to have instructed them to ensure discipline in the party and refrain from indulging in group politics. “Party leaders should not make statements in public and follow party rules, besides maintaining unity,” Mallikarjun Kharge said.
Last week, a few erstwhile Warangal MLAs had complained to the AICC Telangana incharge against Forest Minister Konda Surekha’s family conduct. In addition to, Jadcherla MLA J Anirudh Reddy had also charged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s coverts were operating in Telangana.
Party sources said that AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal warned that every move by the leaders was being closely watched and urged them to set aside personal agendas.
“Any sort of indiscipline or attempts to defame the party would not be tolerated. Bear in mind that leaders exist only when the party exists” KC Venugopal reportedly told the leaders.
With the local body elections fast approaching, instructions were issued to the State leadership to fill up the nominated posts by the end of this month. “Leaders, who have been loyal and working for the party should be given top priority,” the AICC leaders instructed the Telangana unit.
Earlier in the day, KC Venugopal had held a separate meeting with Revanth Reddy and Meenakshi Natarajan to discuss a few issues.
