Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud on Sunday accused the Congress government of neglecting Backward Classes (BCs) in the State budget and failing to honour promises made in the Kamareddy BC Declaration during the last Assembly elections. He said the Congress promised Rs 20,000 crore annually for BC welfare, but spent only about Rs 5,000 crore over last two years.
Addressing a press meet at Telangana Bhavan, Srinivas Goud said the Congress came to power with the support of BCs, SCs, STs and minorities, but had done little for their welfare. He said that despite presenting a budget of over Rs 3.24 lakh crore, the government made no meaningful allocation for BC communities.
He questioned the delay in implementing assurances like the inclusion of the Mudiraj community under BC-A and creating a separate Ministry for Most Backward Classes. He slammed the government over fee reimbursement dues of nearly ₹12,000 crore and also demanded for adequate representation of BCs in the State Cabinet and nominated posts.
Former MLA Jaipal Yadav demanded reservations for BCs in legislative bodies and quota for OBC women within women’s reservation. He said the Congress was repeatedly betraying BCs with false promises and indulging in vote-bank politics.
