Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao flayed the Congress government for deceiving the youth and farmers of Telangana with unfulfilled promises. Urging voters to deliver a strong verdict against the ruling Congress in the ongoing civic polls to ensure that the promises were delivered, he asserted that victory in municipal polls would mark return of BRS to power.
Campaigning for the municipal elections in Tandur town of Vikarabad district on Sunday, Rama Rao said the Congress won the Assembly elections by showcasing six guarantees but failed to implement them even after more than two years in office. He recalled Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s claim to fulfill all promises within 100 days, while the ground reality stood in sharp contrast.
Farmers were now struggling to procure urea, forcing them to wait in long queues, he said, recalling that there was never a fertiliser shortage during the BRS regime. He also alleged delays in Rythu Bandhu payments and accused the government of failing to deliver on assurances such as a Rs 500 crop bonus, enhanced pensions and welfare support for women.
The BRS working president said welfare schemes like Bathukamma sarees and the KCR Kits had vanished, while promises of Rs 4,000 pension, one tola gold for Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes, unemployment allowance, educational assistance, and financial support for women remained unfulfilled. “People were shown dreams of prosperity, but were betrayed,” he said, adding that cases were being filed against those questioning the government.
Rama Rao mounted a personal attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of focusing on political rhetoric instead of governance. He said the Chief Minister spent more time targeting BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao than addressing public issues during the electioneering. He accused the Congress leadership of corruption and misuse of power.
Revanth Reddy had relocated the Tandur Nursing College sanctioned during the BRS tenure, to his Kodangal constituency, he said, demanding clarity from the Chief Minister on what development initiatives were planned specifically for Tandur.
Calling the municipal elections crucial, Rama Rao said voting for the Congress again would only embolden it to continue its deception. “If people are misled once, it is the fault of the Congress, but if it happens again, responsibility lies with the voter,” he said.
Urging voters to support the BRS candidates, he said the municipal polls should mark the beginning of the party’s return to power in Telangana.
