Hyderabad: The lack of coordination between Ministers and MLAs, a widening gap between party workers and leaders, differences over filling up of nominated posts between loyalists and turncoat MLAs are all rocking the Congress boat in Telangana, with the recent Pradesh Congress Committee and Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meetings at Gandhi Bhavan witnessing tremors of the same.
Interestingly, discussions and arguments over these issues took place in the very presence of AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, AICC Telangana incharge Deepadas Munshi, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud.
Venugopal is learnt to have expressed displeasure over the lack of coordination between the Ministers, MLAs and party cadre in execution of party and government programmes.
The AICC General Secretary also particularly discussed the performance of a few Ministers and their respective portfolios. Directions were issued to the Ministers to focus on their departments and ensure development works were grounded and win the people’s confidence.
He also pointed fingers at the widening gap between elected public representatives and party cadre in the State. And this was the specific reason behind the AICC General Secretary directing the Ministers to visit mandals once in every month and discuss local issues.
This discussion came up after the internal survey conducted by the State leadership over the performance of the Ministers and government in the last one year.
This apart, the issue of filing up nominated posts was also extensively discussed at the meetings. The Congress loyalists complained that their services were being sidelined and the followers of turncoat MLAs, who joined the party recently, were given priority.
Towards this, it was resolved that nominated posts should be given to loyalists. And also in mandals and constituencies where the party has strong presence, defections should not be encouraged, the AICC General Secretary is learnt to have instructed the party leadership.
The AICC General Secretary’s sudden arrival in Hyderabad and participating in the PAC meeting took many leaders by surprise. Venugopal had arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday to attend a couple of personal meetings, including with a few industrialists, it is said. Since he was in the city, an appeal was made to participate in the PAC meeting, said a senior leader from the party.
There is also buzz in the party circles that AICC Telangana in-charge Deepadas Munshi would be replaced with a new leader. Though, many senior leaders are tight-lipped over the issue, speculations are rife that a new incharge would be appointed for Telangana shortly.
Party sources said that Munshi’s interference in administrative matters was not going well with a few senior leaders. The same was discussed with the party high command and in a few days a decision could be taken accordingly.
