Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday said Congress leaders, who boasted of opening “Mohabbat ka Dukaan”, were now spreading hatred to divert people’s attention from the party’s failed promises. He criticised the Congress government for its unfulfilled promises to the minorities in Telangana, but claiming to be champions of their development and welfare.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s birth anniversary, where he distributed study materials to underprivileged Muslim students, Rama Rao called for inclusive governance. “The Congress called itself a “Mohabbat ka Dukaan”, but it is filled with hatred. They promised six guarantees but delivered none,” he said, stating that the Congress government neglected all communities. He cited the looming demolition of 16,000 homes under the Musi River rejuvenation project, labeling it a blatant attack on the poor.
The BRS working president questioned the Congress government’s commitment to implement its Minority Declaration and listed out its unfulfilled promises to the community.
“They promised a minority population census in six months, job reservations, a Rs.4,000 crore Minority Sub-Plan and Rs.1,000 crore for minority employment loans. Not even Rs.1 lakh has been disbursed till date. They spoke of scholarships, housing aid, and increased honourariums for Imams and Maulanas, but nothing has materialised,” he added.
Pointing out the previous BRS government’s track record under the leadership of K Chandrashekhar Rao, he highlighted the BRS’s commitment to communal harmony, citing initiatives like appointing a Muslim as a Deputy Chief Minister and Deputy Mayor in GHMC, and implementing welfare schemes for all communities.
“From Bathukamma sarees to Ramzan and Christmas gifts, Chandrashekhar Rao saw people beyond religion and votes,” he said, also explaining the numerous initiatives by the BRS government including establishment of over 200 residential schools and overseas education scholarships for minority students.
“The BRS spent Rs 10,000 crore on minority welfare, including for the Shaadi Mubarak scheme and monthly stipends for Imams and Maulanas,” he said, urging the people to reject divisive politics and to support the BRS for inclusive development.
