Medak: Some unidentified cyber criminals created a fake Facebook account with the profile and name of Sub-Inspector, Medak, Potharaju Pochaiah on Tuesday. By obtaining the list of his Facebook friends, the cyber crooks sent messages through Facebook Messenger seeking digital transfer of Rs 10,000 immediately citing emergency.

Several of his friends transferred the amount into his account. On learning about the trap, officials blocked the account and posted details on the officer’s official Facebook account suggesting citizens not to respond to such messages.

Meanwhile, the cyber criminals created another profile on the name of Srikanth, Sub-Inspector of Sangareddy Rural Police Station. On being alerted by one of his friends, Srikanth posted a message on his personal Facebook wall asking them not to respond to such requests.

Recently, cyber criminals created fake profiles of DSP, Sangareddy, Sridhar Reddy. However, Reddy got the account blocked immediately by sending a message to Facebook management. The police officials in erstwhile Medak district have been circulating messages to keep the people aware about such attempts. Investigation is on to trace the culprits.
