Mahabubnagar: Since last five days, 81 gram panchayats in Mahabubnagar have recorded zero Covid cases. Prior to that,  in the last 10 days, in 47 gram panchayats there was not a single case was recorded and in the last 15 days, 98 gram panchayats recorded zero cases.

Like many places in the State, Covid cases are steadily decreasing in Mahabubnagar. There are 44 Covid isolation centres in the district and on Saturday not a single person was admitted into these centres. On the contrary, 69 were discharged from these centres till Saturday.

All this did not happen overnight. The district administration has taken up multi-pronged measures to control the spread of virus and the efforts are yielding desired results. “To begin with, we have gone with a strict action plan. After fever survey in every village, we tackled all the cases carefully. Focus was on containing the spread at village and mandal level,” says District Collector S Venkat Rao.

For the convenience of those, who did not have isolation facility, mini isolation centres were set up in many villages. Medical kits were distributed to all those who tested positive in villages, besides following up every case carefully by deploying special teams, he explained.

Those, who were in self isolation in villages and developed minor complications were shifted to Mini isolation centres. And, in few cases, when the condition of patients did not improve, they were shifted to Government General Hospital for further treatment.

Amidst all these measures, emphasis was laid on extensive spraying of disinfectants. The disinfection of all drainages, roads etc by were taken up extensively in gram panchayats and mandal levels. Strict implementation of Covid guidelines, especially wearing mask, maintaining physical distance, helped a lot.

As a result of these measures, the possitivity percent came down from 34.2 percent to 3.5 percent.  In tune with strict implementation of Covid guidelines, district administration focusing on vaccination, especially high risk groups.

Three vaccination centres were operated exclusively for high risk groups but with the number of people taking vaccine increasing in this group, three more centres have been set up since Thursday.

Till recently, about 650 persons were being administered vaccine at these centres everyday and officials have been directed to increase the number of people getting vaccinated at these centres to 1150 a day, he added.
