The whole world is in the fear of the pandemic. The fear of contracting Covid-9, the anxiety of infecting others around, the worry of losing loved ones due to the pandemic, the fright of holding on to their livelihood and many more such anxieties.
Teachers had their fears. Fear of not being able to adapt to new mode of teaching, being able to connect to students, power cuts, unstable internet connectivity, unsupportive devices, handling technical glitches, creating a classroom environment at her place and so on. Most important is being at home and attending to the needs of every member of the family at their convenience.
As truly said, “A teacher is the second parent” a teacher has been a second parent to many of her students. Apart from handling the stress and anxiety of her family a teacher also had to handle the stress and anxiety of all the families of students with whom she is connected with. She wept when there was a loss, extended her support to the families when they were jobless, underwent the pain of a member being hospitalised, enquired about the well-being of all the members of her extended family- ignoring her own.
Teachers may not be frontline warriors technically, yet they have stepped up and picked up the mantel of continuing with education. They have adapted to unknown platforms proving to be the pillars of e-learning. A teacher would always work on experimenting and updating new ways to keep her students engaged productively, to make learning more fun, helping to connect students with their friends through various channels online, attending various courses to re-equip to cater to students with different abilities. She had to be hard-nosed with her students concerning online classes on turning on videos, muting themselves, being fair during assessments and the list is endless.
Life is a rope that swings us through hope. Always believe that today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be much better than today.
