Khammam: Even as the CPI (M) leaders were taking to streets demanding to arrest the accused involved in the murder of the party leader, Samineni Rama Rao, the district police have filed a petition in the court seeking permission for polygraph tests on suspects in the case.
The petition filed in Khammam court sought permission to conduct lie detector tests on 24 persons who included suspects as well as witnesses belonging to the Congress and CPI (M) parties.
Rama Rao was murdered on October 31, 2025 at his house at Patharlapadu village of Chintakani mandal in the district. However, there has been no significant progress in the case even after two months since the murder. The police maintained that five teams have been formed to carry out investigation in the case, but neither the motive behind the murder nor the identity of the assailants has been ascertained so far.
In this backdrop, several protests were staged in Khammam in which CPI (M) State secretary John Wesley, party leaders Pothineni Sudharshan, Nunna Nageswara Rao and others took part. They alleged that the investigation was being influenced by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
According to sources, the consent of the suspects and witnesses was required to put them under polygraph test and then the court grants permission for the tests. It was said a few persons have agreed to the tests and others were yet to give their consent. Asking the court’s permission for polygraph tests for 24 persons in a single case could perhaps be for the first time in the State, officials said.
