Khammam: Extensive preparations are underway for the closing ceremony of the Communist Party of India’s centenary celebrations.
A massive public meeting with one lakh people is planned to be held in Khammam city on January 18. As many as 15,000 Janaseva Dal activists will march through the city streets, while nearly 40,000 flags are being prepared for the occasion.
Special cutouts are being erected to commemorate the sacrifices of martyrs and to call for future struggles. On January 14, party activists plan to hoist red flags on every house throughout the district. Arrangements are being made to welcome delegates from 40 countries, with banners set up to greet CPI national and state leaders.
A poets’ meet was organised on Monday under the aegis of the Progressive Writers’ Association and the CPI Khammam district committee, marking the centenary celebrations.
Renowned film lyricist Suddala Ashok Teja unveiled Noorella Aruna Ketanam, a collection of poems written by 60 poets. Na Gamanam, a collection of poems by Kompelli Ramaiah, a functionary of the Progressive Writers’ Association (Arasam), was also released.
Kothagudem MLA and CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, speaking to the media, said the BJP believes it can consolidate power by suppressing voices of dissent. He said the public meeting in Khammam on January 18 would be a milestone in the history of the communist movement and a crucial turning point for people’s struggles.
Sambasiva Rao stated that communists played a key role in the freedom struggle and later in the Telangana armed struggle, where nearly 4,500 people were martyred. He added that communists continue to fight exploitation, oppression and discrimination across sectors, and said people want the divided communist parties to unite.
