Hyderabad: The CPI(M) State unit has strongly criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his remarks against Keralam Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It also recalled his earlier reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his “big brother.”
CPI (M) State Secretary John Wesley said it was unfortunate that the Telangana Chief Minister claimed that voting for the Keralam Chief Minister was equivalent to voting for the Prime Minister.
In a statement, Wesley pointed out that Revanth Reddy had earlier addressed the Prime Minister as his “big brother” during his visit to Telangana. In contrast, while campaigning in Keralam, he alleged that Pinarayi Vijayan and Narendra Modi were aligned.
Wesley said the Chief Minister was advocating the election of a UDF government in Keralam while projecting Telangana as a leader in several sectors.
He countered these claims by highlighting that Keralam allocates 24 per cent of its budget to education, compared to eight per cent in Telangana. He also said healthcare in Keralam is provided free of cost, whereas in Telangana it has become commercialised.
The CPI (M) leader further alleged that the Chief Minister had failed to fulfil key promises. These include filling job vacancies and providing Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to women, Rs 12,000 to agricultural labourers, and Rs 15,000 to tenant farmers.
He added that Keralam, under the LDF government, is the only state in the country to have officially declared itself free of extreme poverty. He questioned whether Telangana had achieved similar progress.
The CPI (M) State Committee condemned the Chief Minister’s remarks against the Keralam Chief Minister. It also appealed to the people of Keralam to understand what it called Congress politics and reject the UDF.
