Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat along with other officials releasing the annual crime report in the city on Monday.

Hyderabad: An increase of about nine per cent was witnessed in the overall crime in Rachakonda in 2021 with cybercrimes, crimes against women, kidnappings, POCSO cases and few conventional crimes, increasing. However, the Rachakonda police ensured the conviction rate increased, dealt with iron fist cases of women and child trafficking and busted major drug rackets this year. The year saw the police booking a total of 23,045 cases as against 20,467 cases the previous year.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat said the police registered cases whenever any person came with a complaint. “Cases were registered following due legal procedure on every complaint received at the police station and investigated. We expect the number of cases to increase in following years as people have confidence in the police,” he said.

Cases under the head of murder for gain, robbery, murders, kidnappings, molestation and other bodily offences increased in 2021. The cybercrime cases witnessed around 130 per cent jump with 1,360 cases being reported this year as against 610 cases the previous year.

“Cybercrime is future crime, so across the country there is an increase in cases. Everyday new modus operandi is adopted by the fraudsters to cheat the public and on our side we are registering cases and nabbing the fraudsters, freezing accounts and awareness about the crime is also being done regularly,” the Commissioner said. He said that the traffic police are regularly taking up drunken driving checking and booking cases against the persons found driving under influence of alcohol.

A total of 580 persons were sent for imprisonment by the court for drunk driving. Cases of POCSO and rape also increased and police attribute it to more women coming forward to register their complaints in hope of getting justice.
