Cut, copy, paste: Revanth walks in Naidu’s footsteps — from land pooling to blame game

Hyderabad: It just cannot be a mere coincidence. The disciple appears to be following in the footsteps of his guru in multiple aspects, including the tactics adopted to counter the opposition. You guessed it right. We are talking about Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his political mentor, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Consider this. After pooling in over 34,000 acres from farmers during 2014 to 2019 to build Amaravati, Naidu is reportedly planning to acquire additional 30,000 acres for building the capital.

Here, Revanth Reddy is planning to construct what he calls ‘Future City’ in 30,000 acres. The Telangana government plans to acquire more land in addition to the 14,000 acres that was acquired in the past for the Pharma City, which has been more or less scrapped by the Congress for Revanth Reddy’s Future City dream.

There is more. After the Congress Legislative Party meeting here on Tuesday, Revanth Reddy expressed concern over Congress MLAs and leaders failing to effectively use social media to counter the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The same day, Chandrababu Naidu, during the Andhra Pradesh cabinet meeting, pointed out that his Ministers were not countering the opposition YSRCP’s allegations on different issues in an effective manner.

The similarities do not end there. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister has been blaming the previous YSRCP government for the financial constraints he was facing in delivering the promises he made to the people prior to coming to power. In Telangana, his disciple Revanth Reddy has been blaming the previous BRS government for the financial mess his government is in, despite taking over the reins with a revenue surplus budget.

The cut, copy, paste syndrome goes on. After realizing that it was beyond his capacity to implement the six guarantees he had assured to the people during the election campaign, Revanth Reddy has kept saying that he had hoped to witness coffers full of cash in the Secretariat but found only empty pots. This is the same narrative used by his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh. Chandrababu Naidu too has been saying that he had the will and commitment to implement his promises, but the cash box was empty.

Still want to argue that it is a coincidence?
While trying to cover up his failure in implementing the six guarantees, Revanth Reddy admitted that it was challenging to raise loans in the market and no one trusted his government. Like shishya, like guru. Naidu too has been saying that financial agencies were not keen on lending loans to his government.

And despite Naidu pushing for the Polavaram-Banakacherla linkage project, which Telangana has opposed all these years, Revanth Reddy has not come out as strongly as any other Chief Minister would have against the project.

Boss is always right, no?
