Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police have solved the sensational burglary case reported at Hill Ridge Villas in Gachibowli and arrested three persons, including a Nepali couple, on Tuesday.
Police recovered the entire stolen property, including several kilograms of gold and silver ornaments.
The arrested persons were identified as Kamal Shahi, his wife Vimal Shahi, and another woman, Kalpana.
According to police, the burglary was committed on June 6 while the elderly homeowners were away. The couple returned on June 7 and noticed that a gold chain adorning a household idol was missing. They subsequently lodged a complaint with Gachibowli police, following which a case was registered.
The scale of the crime came to light a day later when the victims’ son returned home and opened a locker using a key in his possession. He found that approximately 7–8 kg of gold ornaments and around 1.5 kg of silver ornaments had been stolen.
Taking the case seriously, Cyberabad Police mobilised Special Operations Teams (SOT), crime teams and local police units.
Investigation officials analysed available clues, tracked the suspects’ movements and dispatched six teams to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
Details and photographs of the suspects were shared with police in those states, while a special police team constituted to tackle Nepali criminal gangs also joined the operation.
On Tuesday, Gachibowli police, with assistance from Uttar Pradesh police, nabbed the trio at Udhampur village in Rampur district.
During interrogation, they allegedly confessed that they used a key kept near the locker to open it, removed the jewellery, relocked the locker and fled with the key.
Police said the stolen property was recovered intact.
The suspects were produced before a local court in Uttar Pradesh and will be brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant for further investigation.
