Hyderabad: Cybercrime cases recorded a declining trend under Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in 2025, with 7,636 cases registered, compared to 11,914 cases in 2024, reflecting a significant reduction.
As per the data released by the Cyberabad Police on Tuesday, financial losses due to cyber frauds also dropped sharply to Rs 404.61 crore in 2025, from Rs 793.18 crore in 2024. Meanwhile, swift response and intervention from the police also helped in freezing and recovery of the funds, with Rs 54.67 crore refunded to victims during the year.
Petitions received increased marginally to 31,569 in 2025, compared to 30,883 in 2024, largely due to a rise in complaints involving losses below Rs 25,000. Such low-value petitions stood at 19,059 in 2025, up from 17,916 in 2024.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty said that among fraud methods, part-time job fraud remained the most reported offence with 2,079 cases, followed by trading fraud with 1,256 cases and smishing fraud with 689 cases. Despite fewer cases, trading fraud caused the highest losses.
Police also noted a sharp fall in digital arrest fraud, which dropped from 1,002 cases in 2024 to 117 cases in 2025, indicating improved public awareness and enforcement.
‘Digital Arrest’ fraud has seen almost a 90 per cent reduction this year when compared to the previous year. We do not take the entire credit, but credit goes to the citizens from all sections of the society for their proactive approach,” the commissioner said.
Officials attributed the overall decline to continuous cyber awareness campaigns, faster freezing of accounts and coordinated action with banks and service providers.
