Cybercrime police bust fake matrimonial racket in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime police arrested the prime suspect in an Rs 25 lakh matrimonial fraud case, where several victims were duped through fake matrimonial profiles.
The arrested suspects are Aneesa Mohmadyaseen Hundekar (33) from Karnataka and her associate Mohd Abdul Aamer (31) from Hyderabad. Another key conspirator, Zohar Fathima (24) from Bijapur, is absconding.
According to police, the gang created fake matrimonial profiles and Instagram accounts using edited photos and videos of women, including that of a Pakistani YouTube influencer, to lure prospective grooms. Victims were contacted via WhatsApp and Instagram, engaged in video calls, and persuaded to transfer large sums of money under false pretexts such as medical emergencies and household expenses.
One complainant, who believed he was interacting with a potential bride, was cheated of Rs 25 lakh.
Based on a complaint, the Cybercrime police booked a case and arrested the suspects.
Victims of cyber fraud were urged to dial 1930 or report through cybercrime.gov.in.
