Hyderabad: Daily walking goes a long way in preventing severe health risks from blood clots, specialists from Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), while taking part in Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) awareness walk at Necklace Road on Sunday said.
Dr Bollineni Bhaskar Rao, CMD, KIMS Group of Hospitals, while inaugurating the Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) walk, said that even in developed countries like the US, the DVT is a significant issue. “Every year, around 9 lakh people are affected by DVT in the US, with 1 lakh losing their lives. It is a major cause of preventable deaths. Early detection, effective treatment, and daily walking can help overcome this issue,” he said.
Regular walking is essential, and during long journeys, people should take breaks to move around. Those already at risk should wear compression stockings and take prescribed blood thinners. Advanced treatments like Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis can help dissolve/remove clots, Dr Rao said.
Dr Narendranath Meda, senior vascular and endovascular surgeon, KIMS, surgical oncologist Dr Nagendra Parvathaneni, Dr Francis Sridhar, Dr Jagadesh and others were present.
