Hyderabad: Several Dalit Bandhu scheme applicants from across the State staged a protest at Praja Bhavan demanding the State government to release funds under the scheme.

Under the aegis of the Rashtra Dalit Bandhu Sadhana Samithi, the applicants raised slogans during the Prajavani programme conducted here on Friday. Rashtra Dalit Bandhu Sadhana Samithi president K Mahesh said under the second phase of the scheme, the previous government had sanctioned funds to the identified beneficiaries. However, due to Assembly election code, the amount was deposited in the respective District Collector’s bank accounts. It has been 10 months since the new government came to power, but the funds were not being released to the beneficiaries, he said.

As the State cabinet meeting was scheduled on Wednesday, they wanted the government to discuss the issue and take a positive decision. The State government had already approved Rs.2000 crore for the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the budget, he said.

“If the government does not consider our plea, large-scale protests will be staged across the State from Thursday,” Mahesh said.

The organization members also submitted a representation to Prajavani Nodal Officer Divya Devarajan.
