Deccan Development Society hailed for conserving native crops

Sangareddy: Speakers at the valedictory function of the month long 21st Patha Pantala Jathara (Crops Mobile Diversity Festival) hailed the work done by women from Deccan Development Society (DDS) in protecting native crops and underlined the importance of spreading the same spirit across the State.

Impressed by the work of DDS women in conserving native foodgrains, Women’s Commission Chairman V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, MLA Medak Padma Devendar Reddy, Vice-chairman Apollo Hospitals Upasana Kamineni Konidela and others underlined the importance of cultivating such crops across the State.

DDS carries out Patha Pantala Jathara every year from January 14 to February 15 covering most of the villages in Zaheerabad division of Sangareddy district exhibiting the harvest of various native crops that they cultivate. The intention of the festival is to encourage more and more farmers to take up the cultivation of these crops.

Speaking on the occasion at Machanur in Jharasangam Mandal on Monday, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy hailed the efforts of the DDS in conserving the native food crops.

Padma Devendar Reddy said the DDS has set up an example not only for Telangana farmers but also for the rest of the nation. Suggesting the farmers to process and market the crops they have cultivated to earn more profits, Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrasheka Rao was also taking several such initiatives for the benefit of the farmers.

Director DDS PV Sathish has said that their efforts were garneing the response from all sections. Saying that the women of DDS have won national and international awards for their work, the DDS Director has said that the entire credit goes to the women of DDS.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson P Manjusri, MLA Zaheerabad K Manik Rao, Programme Director National Institute for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises K Suryaprakash Goud, Anjamma, plant genome savior and others were present.
