Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Civil Court on Friday issued a stern warning to Minister Konda Surekha in the defamation case filed by BRS working president KT Rama Rao following her derogatory remarks against him.

The court found the Minister’s remarks highly objectionable and issued orders, prohibiting her from making any further defamatory statements against Rama Rao.

According to a statement issued by the BRS, the court ordered for removal of Surekha’s remarks from media, social media platforms, websites and other digital platforms immediately.

Orders have been issued to YouTube, Facebook and Google to delete videos containing these comments, while media outlets that broadcast or published these remarks were directed to remove all related content from social media.

The court observed that Surekha’s comments could have a harmful impact on society, and directed that all articles and videos linked to her remarks should not be available in the public domain.

This is probably the first time that a court expressed such strong disapproval in a defamation case involving someone at the ministerial level, the BRS said. Surekha was reprimanded by the Election Commission of India, for making similar remarks during the elections earlier this year, it said.

The BRS working president had approached the court and filed a criminal defamation case for Rs 100 crore against the Minister for making defamatory remarks against him and refusing to apologise.
