New Delhi: The Patiala House Court will on Saturday hear the bail plea of Gaganpreet Kaur, the accused in the Delhi BMW accident that killed a senior Ministry of Finance official earlier this month.
The tragic incident occurred in the Dhaula Kuan area, where Kaur’s BMW allegedly rammed into a motorcycle, critically injuring Navjot Singh, a Finance Ministry officer, who later died. His wife sustained grievous injuries.
Kaur, 38, was earlier remanded to judicial custody for two days before her custody was extended until September 27. Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg heard preliminary arguments on Thursday and reserved the verdict for today.
Prosecution’s arguments
During Thursday’s proceedings, the prosecution argued the BMW was speeding at the time of the collision. They also raised concerns over the victims being taken not to the nearest hospital, but to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, allegedly owned by one of Kaur’s relatives. Prosecutors suggested this could indicate an attempt to tamper with medical evidence.
The Investigating Officer submitted CCTV footage of the incident, which the magistrate reviewed. The footage is expected to be crucial in establishing the sequence of events.
Case details
The complainant’s lawyer, Atul Kumar, confirmed the bail hearing is listed for Saturday. The court will decide whether Kaur will be granted bail or remain in custody.
Kaur faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving. The case has attracted wide public attention due to the high-profile victim and concerns about fair investigation and justice.
