Warangal Urban: Tension prevailed at Adalath Centre in Hanamkonda here on Thursday when Tummala Shobarani, a TRS activist, went to the terrace of a five-storeyed building under construction and threatened to immolate herself at being denied the party ticket for the 58th division in the GWMC election.
Seeking some assurance of justice from a senior party leader, she alleged that some party leaders had demanded Rs 50 lakh from her for the B-Form. On coming to know about the incident, a local TRS leader Janardhan and some advocates spoke to her over phone and tried to persuade her not to resort to any extreme step as the party coordination committee on GWMC elections and State Planning Commission Vice-Chairperson Boinpally Vinod Kumar would resolve her issue.
Shobarani, however, stayed put on the terrace since no party leader turned up to speak with her. When contacted over phone, Shobarani said she was pained not because she was denied a ticket but the way party leaders were treating her.
“If some passerby falls unconscious due to this scorching heat in this summer, others show sympathy and try to help the victim. But leaders who promised justice have not called me till now. I have been staging the protest from 9 am,” she said.
Police personnel and fire staff have been stationed at the Adalath Centre.
Meanwhile, Darshan Singh, another aspirant, also climbed a cell tower on Wednesday evening as he was ‘denied’ ticket. However, he came down after TRS leaders assured him of justice. Another leader Rachamalla Ravinder, who expected ticket for his wife Sunitha from the 54th division, also threatened to end his life as the party denied ticket.
It may be recalled here that Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, while promising aspirants of suitable post in future, had also made it that those who work against the party interests or make comments against the party publicly would attract severe action.
