Hyderabad: At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already become one of the biggest talking points in Indian cricket.
From becoming the youngest player in IPL history to smashing a record-breaking T20 century, the Rajasthan Royals prodigy’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary.
But amid the growing hype around the young batter, Indian cricketer, commentator, and RCB mentor Dinesh Karthik believes the cricketing world needs to slow down on comparisons, especially ones linking him to Sachin Tendulkar.
In a recent episode of the iQOO Quest Talk podcast, DK spoke candidly about the spotlight surrounding Vaibhav and the pressure that comes with early success.
“What Vaibhav is doing is very special, but what I don’t want people to do is tag him as the next Sachin because he is just 15 years old and doing what he is doing,” he said.
While acknowledging the scale of the youngster’s talent, Karthik stressed that every generation comes with its own challenges. “What Sachin did was extraordinary. Vaibhav’s challenges will be completely different,” he explained. “Sachin’s challenges were as much on the field as they were off the field, but Vaibhav’s challenges will definitely be more off the field,” he added.
According to DK, modern young athletes today are not just dealing with cricket, they are navigating social media scrutiny, public expectations, instant fame, and constant attention at an incredibly young age. “He possesses a lot of cricketing skill. It is about dealing with everything that comes outside the sport,” he added.
Vaibhav, who was signed by Rajasthan Royals as a teenager and quickly made headlines with fearless performances, is already being seen as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young prospects. But for DK, the focus should remain on giving young talent the freedom to grow naturally, without burdening them with labels too early.
