Disparity in BC reservations: KTR questions Congress claims and promises
K.T. Rama Rao criticised the Congress government over the revised BC reservation pattern for gram panchayat polls, alleging it reduced the quota to 17 per cent despite promising 42 per cent. He also questioned the Rs 160-crore caste census expenditure and highlighted district-level disparities.

Hyderabad: With the revised pattern for reservations for backward classes in the forthcoming gram panchayat elections revealing huge disparities with some districts having no reservation for BCs at all, BRS working president KT Rama Rao has questioned the tall claims made by the Congress.
Pointing out that the Congress had promised 42 percent reservation for the BC community but in the end, brought it down from the existing percentage to a mere 17 percent, he asked why was then Rs.160 crore spent on the Caste census. Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a post on X, Rama Rao stated that the Congress, which projected Telangana’s caste census as a role model for other States, had in reality only slashed the existing reservations for BCs.
“You spoke eloquently about Telangana caste census and claimed it as a role model for other states… Congress Govt Spent Rs 160 crore with a promise of 42% reservation for BC community… Delivered 17% to BC community (reduced from 24%) in the just announced panchayat elections!!!’ he posted.
“Any chance you could share the wisdom in wasting huge money of the exchequer in this futile exercise?” Rama Rao asked Rahul Gandhi, adding a summary of the reservation percentages for each district as per the latest patterns, which shows districts like Kothagudem having not a single one of 471 gram panchayats reserved for BCs, while there are multiple districts where the percentage is much below 10, forget the promised 42 percent or existing 23 percent.
