Hyderabad: Borabanda (GHMC Ward No. 103) in Yousufguda Circle of the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency is one of the most densely populated areas in the city.
The electorate here is a diverse mix, comprising people who migrated long ago from various States including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Most of them are part of the city’s construction workforce. Over the decades, several businessmen from Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have also settled in the area and are engaged in businesses such as gold and jewellery, and real estate.
Migrants from Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha are primarily involved in Plaster of Paris (POP) work, making Ganesha and Durga idols, and working at construction sites. Several families from northern Andhra regions such as Srikakulam and Vizianagaram have also made Borabanda their home.
While many of these migrant families are registered voters, a significant portion of the population , mainly from Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha, do not possess voter cards due to the migratory nature of their work.
The ward has an extensive road network, largely comprising CC roads, developed during the previous BRS regime. The HMWSSB provides an adequate piped water supply, though certain localities still depend on tanker water owing to the absence of a pipeline network caused by the rocky terrain.
The electorate spread across SRT Nagar Sites 2 and 3, Habib Fathima Nagar, SPR Hills, Prathibha Nagar, Indira Nagar, Karmika Nagar, and Tulasi Nagar play a significant role in shaping the election outcome.
