Nearly 3,000 nominations filed for 506 gram panchayats in Adilabad
A total of 2,593 sarpanch nominations and thousands of ward member nominations were filed across 506 gram panchayats in the erstwhile Adilabad district. Several panchayats and wards, however, received no nominations, particularly in Mancherial, Utnoor, and Dasturabad mandals.

Adilabad: A total of 2,593 nominations were filed for the post of sarpanch in 506 gram panchayats notified for first phase polls in the erstwhile Adilabad district on the last day of filing on Saturday.
Panchayat officials said Adilabad district’s 166 gram panchayats received 756 nominations, while Mancherial district saw 518 nominations for 90 gram panchayats going to polls in the first phase. Nirmal district recorded 798 nominations for 136 gram panchayats, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district received 521 nominations for 114 panchayats.
For ward member posts, 2,199 nominations were filed for 1,390 wards in Adilabad district. Mancherial district saw 1,749 nominations for 816 wards. Nirmal district received 2,080 nominations for 1,072 wards, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district registered 1,426 nominations for 944 wards. Candidates queued up in long lines and continued filing till 10 pm.
Significantly, three gram panchayats and 34 wards in Mancherial district did not receive a single nomination. In Adilabad district, nominations were filed for only three wards in Utnoor mandal. One gram panchayat in Dasturabad mandal and seven wards in Nirmal district also did not receive nominations.
