Hyderabad: Cardiothoracic surgeons of Medicover Hospitals, Hitec City, have successfully undertaken a surgery to save the life of a 20-year-old youngster who had suffered Aortic Dissection, a serious condition where the inner layer of the aorta, which is the largest blood vessel of the heart, tears.
Apart from having Aortic Dissection, the youngster, hailing from Nagpur, also had Marfan syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder that affects body’s connective tissues, which gives strength, support and elasticity to tendons, cartilage, heart valves, blood vessels etc.
The youngster was brought to the hospital with severe chest or upper back pain that radiated to the neck or down the back, loss of consciousness and shortness of breath.
Dr Pramod Reddy, chief cardiothoracic and aortic surgeon, Dr Sharath Reddy, interventional cardiologist and other senior doctors carried out a complicated procedure by replacing half of the aorta from the aortic root by using new technique known as frozen elephant trunk. After the successful surgery, the youngster has made quick recovery.
