Hyderabad: To instil the value of sustainable development, understanding the process of growth in plants and the significance of growing herbs at home, Delhi Public School, Nacharam initiated the ‘Radio Gardening Project’ for the students of classes III and IV to contribute towards a clean, green and safe environment. Under this project, the students undertook the activity of ‘Growing Culinary Herb Garden at Home – Cilantro/Coriander’ in October.
The students were briefed about the required material and the procedure for growing coriander at home was explained by the teachers. A video was also shared for a better understanding of the procedure of growing fresh coriander in simple steps. The students were asked to observe the plants and submit a report of the activity mentioning the time required for the germination of the seeds, mentioning the uses of coriander and also preparing picture collages to share the observations from the day of sowing of seeds till the harvest. They also shared their personal experiences of the activity through short videos.
Students learnt about the process of growth in plants through this activity. They also understood how organic fertiliser is a valuable resource as it helped in the growth of the herb garden. Students also shared the significance of growing fresh herbs at home and how simple it was to grow them. The activity allowed them to observe nature at work.
