Dr. Vishal Akula selected for prestigious national IMA award
Dr. Vishal Akula, Head of Psychiatry at Government Medical College, Nizamabad, has been chosen for the prestigious Dr. Ketan Desai Aao Gaon Chalein Award by the Indian Medical Association for his contributions to rural healthcare, mental health services, and de-addiction initiatives.

Hyderabad: Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College, Nizamabad, Dr. Vishal Akula, has been selected for the prestigious Dr. Ketan Desai Aao Gaon Chalen Award (Rural Services) by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the country’s largest professional organization of doctors.
The senior neuropsychiatrist and drug de-addiction specialist has been selected for the award for his outstanding contributions to rural healthcare, community mental health services, de-addiction initiatives, public health awareness, and his dedicated service to society over the years.
Dr. Vishal will receive the prestigious award during the National Doctors’ Day awards ceremony on July 18 at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, in the presence of the IMA national leadership.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vishal dedicated the honour to his patients, colleagues, students, and all healthcare professionals working tirelessly to improve mental healthcare and rural health services. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving society with compassion, scientific excellence, and community-oriented healthcare initiatives.
The senior mental health specialist, who is also president-elect of the IPS (Indian Psychiatric Society) Telangana State Branch, expressed his gratitude to all the state and national-level members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for conferring the prestigious national honour.
