Hyderabad: The Democratic Teachers Federation (DTF), Telangana, has demanded that the State Government strengthen the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) as a research-driven apex academic institution.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Secretary (Education), DTF stated that the quality of school education in Telangana is directly linked to the academic credibility and functioning of SCERT.
Calling for SCERT to function as a research-driven, university-like academic and research institution, the DTF proposed compulsory annual field engagement for the Director and faculty. The representation sought the reorganisation of SCERT into full-fledged academic departments, each adequately staffed with qualified Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors, covering Early Childhood Care and Education, all school subjects, teacher education, evaluation, and educational research.
The DTF also highlighted the severe shortage of faculty in teacher education institutions and called for urgent recruitment of permanent faculty and also raised concerns over confidential examination work, including TET, the recruitment of teachers, question paper preparation.
