Khammam: Alleging that the demolition of houses belonging to the poor had become the main agenda of the Revanth Reddy government, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender said the government’s downfall was imminent.
He criticised the Congress government for failing to provide even a single house to the poor since coming to power, while demolishing houses of the poor across the State. At the same time, the government was not acting against illegal structures belonging to the rich, he alleged.
Rajender strongly condemned the demolition of about 800 houses built by poor families on Bhoodan lands in Velugumatla under Khammam urban limits. Along with local BJP leaders, he visited Vinoba Navodaya Colony and interacted with the affected families. He demanded that the government immediately provide justice to those who had lost their homes and ensure proper rehabilitation for the affected families. The Bharatiya Janata Party would continue its fight until justice was done, he asserted.
Rajender said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others who claimed to fight for democracy and people’s rights should explain why the Telangana government demolished houses of the poor in Velugumatla. He also demanded that the government clarify the status of 31 acres out of the 61 acres of land donated to the Bhoodan Board, which were reportedly missing. The Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) should disclose details of assigned lands, government lands, and Inam lands allegedly encroached upon by the rich and political leaders, he said. He urged the State government to construct double-bedroom houses for affected families on their plots in Velugumatla and provide compensation for the household items they had lost.
He also demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy tender an apology for the destruction in Velugumatla and that action be taken against the CCLA and other officials responsible for the demolitions.
