Children and play…. we often hear these words together. Play is very important in childhood and it gives optimal child development. We have been always emphasizing the fact that “Children learn through play” and we are promoting play-based techniques in our daily classes at our school.
The play-based learning that we are offering meets the needs of all learners. The learning style of each child differs as each child possesses specific individual characteristics. During these Covid times addressing the specific needs of different learners has become quite challenging. So, we are trying to provide offline support to those children who have specific learning needs by providing them tips to make the child attain the required learning outcome.
The specific areas of development are Literacy, Maths, Understanding the world (we call it Environmental studies) and expressive arts & design. Development in each specific area is achieved through play-based learning. During virtual classes, we have come up with various events where the child can learn through self-exploration.
Expressive arts & design is implemented as an integral part of the curriculum at DPS. We also have activities planned every week in the form of Art, Music, Physical Education class & MAPS – Move, act, play, sing where we encourage physical movement.
As we are not present physically with the child, learners need continuous motivation and encouragement to complete a task. We have taken one to one session for each parent to make them understand how a child’s participation and thinking plays a vital role in effective learning. This helped us in achieving focused learning.
