Kamareddy: T Subhash Reddy, who shot to fame after donating Rs 6 crore for building a government school in Bibipet mandal of Kamareddy district, hailed Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s move to introduce English medium in government schools across the State from the coming academic year as a game changer. Reddy observed that this move was the first step towards making students from poor backgrounds as global citizens.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Subhash Reddy said western countries were way ahead in technology, science, and other disciplines where Indian students were lagging, despite a competent talent pool, due to lack of resources.
The philanthropist said lack of access to English has become a major hurdle for poor and rural students for decades now and added that Chief Minister’s decision to introduce English medium will help students in scaling greater heights in life, on a par with students from private schools. Since private and corporate schools were charging exorbitant fee, Reddy said studying in English medium schools remained a dream for many but that scenario is a thing of the past. He exuded confidence that the number of admissions in government schools will go up because of this game changing move of the State government. He further observed that teachers in government schools were better equipped and qualified than their counterparts in private schools.
Reddy, who grabbed the attention of the entire nation by spending Rs 6 crore from his pocket on building Bibipet Zilla Parishad High School where he studied as a kid, appealed to philanthropists to support the Telangana government’s move by making liberal donations to improve infrastructure facilities in schools in their villages. On apprehensions that English medium schools will have a negative impact on Telugu learning ability among students, he dismissed such doubts as not true.
