Erstwhile Karimnagar records highest turnout in second-phase gram panchayat polls
The second phase of gram panchayat elections in the erstwhile Karimnagar district concluded peacefully with high voter turnout across most mandals. Despite chilly weather, rural voters queued up from early morning to cast their votes, and officials confirmed that polling was conducted smoothly without any untoward incidents.
Karimnagar: The second phase of gram panchayat elections for sarpanch and ward members passed off peacefully in the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Sunday.
Despite chilly weather conditions, rural voters turned out in large numbers, forming queues at polling stations from the early hours to exercise their franchise. Except in Jagtial district, polling crossed 80 percent in all mandals of Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Rajanna-Sircilla districts.
Karimnagar district recorded the highest turnout at 86.58 percent. A total of 1,60,184 electors cast their votes against an electorate of 1,85,003 across five mandals, namely Chigurumamidi, Ganneruvaram, Manakondur, Shankarapatnam and Thimmapur.
In Rajanna-Sircilla district, polling stood at 84.41 percent. As many as 88,553 voters exercised their franchise out of a total electorate of 1,04,905 in Boinpalli, Thangallapalli and Elanthakunta mandals.
Jagtial district registered 78.34 percent polling in Bheerpur, Jagtial, Jagtial Rural, Kodimyal, Mallial, Raikal and Sarangapur mandals. A total of 1,63,074 electors voted against 2,08,168 registered voters.
In Peddapalli district, polling was recorded at 84.15 percent. Of the total 1,12,658 voters, 94,807 cast their votes in Anthergaon, Dharmaram, Julapalli and Palakurthy mandals.
Election officials said polling was conducted smoothly across the districts without any untoward incidents reported.
