Hyderabad: A downpour on Friday evening disrupted traffic movement in several parts of the city, affecting commuters and employees returning home from work.

More than 1 cm of rainfall was recorded in multiple areas, including Shaikpet, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Musheerabad, Himayatnagar, Serilingampally, Malkajgiri, and Asifnagar.

Employees and students faced inconvenience due to the rains, while traffic chaos persisted in the IT corridor. Commuters endured long delays, with heavy gridlocks reported in Hitec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Manikonda. “It’s frustrating to be stuck for hours every rainy day,” said Ramesh Kumar, a daily commuter.

Traffic cops were on standby to manage congestion, with additional personnel deployed at critical junctions. Measures such as adjusting signal timings and implementing temporary diversions were taken, but the sheer volume of vehicles made it difficult to ease gridlocks during peak hours.

Teams from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), GHMC, and Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Management (HYDRAA) attended to rain-related issues, including waterlogging, overflowing manholes, and debris clearance.
