Fake doctor exposed after pregnant woman dies during illegal abortion in Suryapet
A fake doctor named P. Srinivas was caught conducting illegal sex determination tests and abortions at Sai Balaji Hospital in Tungaturthi, Suryapet district. The Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC) launched an investigation after a pregnant woman died following a failed abortion.
Hyderabad: In a shocking instance of quackery, a fake doctor, P Srinivas, was detected in Tungaturthi, Suryapet district, for illegally conducting sex determination tests and abortions for pregnant women in the surrounding villages.
Inspecting teams from the Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC), which visited Tungaturthi following reports that a pregnant woman had passed away following a failed abortion, said that for the past several years, Srinivas had been running his healthcare facility Sai Balaji Hospital, while performing such illegal activities.
Dr. G. Srinivas, Vice Chairman, TGMC, said the local police are actively seeking to arrest the Rural Medical Practitioner (RMP) and further investigations will shed light on the total number of abortions he has performed over the past several years.
Locals informed the team that they had previously lodged complaints against Srinivas with the local District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), but no action was ever taken.
“When contacted over the phone, the present DM&HO at Suryapet, Dr. Chandrasekhar, claimed he did not come across any complaints that were made in the past, since he has been appointed recently. He assured that strict action would be taken against the RMPs who perform illegal abortions, administer injections, or conduct operations,” Dr Srinivas, said.
A case has been booked against the RMP Srinivas under the relevant sections of the National Medical Commission Act (NMC).
