Hyderabad: The family of a B.Tech student, Ankam Rahul, whose body was found in an abandoned well in Andhra Pradesh after he went missing from Hyderabad, has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, alleging lapses in the investigation and seeking justice in what they describe as a suspicious death.
Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on Saturday, BC Rajyadhikara Samithi founder-president Dasu Suresh, accompanied by Rahul’s parents, Ankam Rajeshwar and Vanitha, said the recent directions issued by the Telangana High Court had renewed the family’s hope of securing a fair and transparent investigation.
Rahul went missing from Kachiguda in Hyderabad and was later found dead in an abandoned well near Singarayakonda in Andhra Pradesh. His parents, with the support of the BC Rajyadhikara Samithi, approached the Telangana High Court by filing Writ Petition No. 21815 of 2026, seeking a comprehensive investigation, a second postmortem examination and, if necessary, a CBI inquiry.
Suresh alleged the authorities failed to respond effectively when Rahul was reported missing and said the delay in the investigation denied timely justice to the family. He urged the Telangana government to accept moral responsibility for the student’s death and appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to extend financial and legal assistance to the bereaved family. He also called upon the management of Rahul’s engineering college to support the family.
Referring to the ongoing investigation, Suresh raised questions over the recovery of Rahul’s mobile phone nearly 45 days after his disappearance. He alleged that the phone’s data had been erased and claimed that details of a reported 30-minute conference call Rahul had attended before leaving Kachiguda had not been made public. According to Suresh, the post-mortem findings had also raised several unanswered questions regarding the exact cause of death.
